Understanding the different types of massages
With so many different massage treatments on offer, picking the right one for your needs can be tricky. Here’s how remedial massage is different from the other common types of massage:
Swedish massage: Swedish massage is all about relaxation, and is usually delivered with a soft pressure. If you want a pain-free, pampering massage, this is the one you want.
Deep tissue massage: Deep tissue massage is also about relaxation, but you can expect your masseuse to use a much firmer pressure to help you achieve that “good” pain. This is a good alternative to Swedish massage, as it will help you to relax while targeting the deeper layers of muscle.
Remedial massage: Not to be confused with deep tissue massage, remedial massage is ideal for people with injuries, sore shoulders and chronic pain including lower back pain or a persisting headache. Not every masseuse is qualified to give remedial massages, so make sure your remedial massage therapist is suitably qualified and experienced for maximum benefits.
Did you know?
Similar to physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractors, myotherapists have their own distinct qualifications, specifically the BHSc (Clinical Myotherapy), BHSc (Myotherapy) and AdvDip (Myotherapy). These qualify practitioners to undertake evidence based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of patients experiencing musculoskeletal pain and associated conditions.
Remedial massage at Adaptive Myotherapy
At Adaptive Myotherapy, all of our clients get an individualised treatment plan that aims to eliminate the source of their problem, as well as the symptoms. Sometimes other treatments will be recommended alongside remedial massage, such as dry needling or cupping, and patients will also be advised on exercise, pain management, load management, and lifestyle or activity modification.
Our remedial massage treatments carry a strong holistic focus, and our clients’ health and wellbeing come first, which is why we adapt with you and your needs to create an individualised treatment plan that your body will respond to. If we can’t help you, we will find someone else who can.
Located directly behind Epworth Hospital and just off Bridge Road in Richmond, Adaptive Myotherapy services clients from all across Melbourne, including Richmond, Abbotsford, Collingwood and Cremorne, of course.
We believe that we are just that little bit more caring than your regular myotherapist, but don’t take our word for it, come and try our treatments for yourself. In addition to remedial massage, our other treatments include pregnancy myotherapy, cupping therapy, dry needling therapy, pregnancy massage and deep tissue massage.
